After one of the longest, driest summers I can remember, everything around us had turned yellow and tired. The fields, the grass, the roadsides… it all looked as though it had simply given up.
Then, right at the end of summer, we had a little rain.
Not much. But enough.
Almost immediately, tiny patches of green started appearing again. Not dramatically, just enough to make you realise how long they had been missing.
I think I missed green more than I realised.
I think my brain noticed it before I consciously did, because shortly afterwards I painted this enormous green thing.
There was something about seeing everything come back so quickly. Things can look finished for a while and still come back.
I painted that feeling.
